Et encore ça :THE BRIDGE OF KHAZAD-DUM413 ) When running from the orcs in Khazad-dum, Frodo’s shirt is still open from exposing the mithril shirt! (good detail)414 ) Running out of the Chamber of Mazarbul, Sam keeps his hand on Frodo’s back.415 ) You can hear the words "Khazad ai-menu" during the dwarvish chanting in Moria in the movie416 ) Right before the shot of the Orcs crawling down the ceiling in Moria, Legolas looks upwards towards the ceiling. I just thought it was interesting to see that someone in the fellowship acknowledged them417 ) When the Orcs run away from the Balrog., Gimli looks pleased and amused, as if his "prowess" had scared them all away.418 ) When Gandalf says, "A Balrog...a demon of the ancient world..." Legolas is the only member of the company who understands (being the only other immortal and knowing Elvish history, he knows exactly what Gandalf is talking about).419 ) The Orcs in Moria have large eyes compared to the orcs that Saruman uses. The reason the Moria orcs have larger eyes than the Isengard Orcs is that they live in the dark, and evolved that way--also part of the reason why they cannot stand the light as well.420 ) When running through the mines away from the Balrog, while everyone else appears to be running at full speed, Legolas looks like he's jogging. This is true in other places where they are forced to run away.421 ) When they are running down the stairs in Moria just before the collapsing bridge/stairway, instead of going around the corner from one flight to the other like everyone else, Legolas jumps over the side to the steps below, saving himself from running down four or five steps and Gimli also jumps from lower down.422 ) Legolas is so sure-footed. As he hops up on the rock to watch the crebain, he's just as graceful as he always is. When he jumps off his horse in Rivendell, when he jumps the stairs in Khazad-dum... he land firmly and never waivers. Very cat-like.423 ) None of Legolas' targets move around much once they're hit. They just drop!424 ) In Khazad-dum, Legolas shoots an arrow with so much force it sails across a wide abyss, pierces through an orcs skull and embeds in the stone pillar.425 ) The Fellowship jumped (or were tossed) from the collapsing stairs in this order: Legolas; Gandalf; Boromir w/M&P; Sam; Gimli; Aragorn; then Frodo.426 ) Arguably the two most important Fellowship members are the ones stranded on the stairs after Gimli jumps (Aragorn and Frodo).427 ) Gimli worried about his beard... a very dwarvish thing.428 ) When the stairs are collapsing, Aragorn makes certain Frodo is safe before he throws himself up higher on the steps.429 ) If the stairs in Moria had fallen the other way, they'd have been cut off.430 ) The Fellowship crossed the Bridge of Khazad-dum in this order: Aragorn; Boromir; Frodo; Pippin; Merry; Sam; Gimli; Legolas; Gandalf. Merry passes Pippin after getting across and run to climb the stairs.431 ) Gandalf gets stronger and straighter as he confronts the Balrog and says who he is and commands the Balrog. The light around him gets bigger and brighter.432 ) When fighting the Balrog, Gandalf always glows white when receiving or giving blows.433 ) We're watching Gandalf's battle with the Balrog from Frodo's perspective; from over his shoulder.434 ) Aragorn lingers after Gandalf falls, narrowly dodging arrows from the Orcs as Boromir routs everyone to escape from Moria after Gandalf has fallen.435 ) You know Gandalf can hear Frodo’s cries as he’s falling.436 ) It's Boromir who routs everyone after Gandalf has fallen.437 ) Aragorn is so stunned he lingers and narrowly dodges an arrow shot at his head.438 ) When the Fellowship escapes Moria, they're struck with the glaring, eye piercing brightness of the day.439 ) The order of the Fellowship when running from Moria onto the rocks: Pippin; Sam; Merry; Legolas; Gimli; Frodo; Boromir; Aragorn. Sam passes Pippin and sits on the rocks ahead of them440 ) When they all come out of Moria, watch Gimli. Boromir has a struggle on his hands as he holds Gimli back because he wants to run back into Moria for Gandalf. You can see Gimli’s legs trying to run away from Boromir.441 ) Merry watches Sam while holding Pippin after escaping Moria. He's always empathizing with others in distress.442 ) A common thread in the storyline - that one character falters, and another pulls him through443 ) Legolas has three arrows (perhaps four) in his quiver when the Fellowship exits Moria and enters the woods of Lothlorien. The number remains the same as they entered Moria.LOTHLORIEN444 ) The brief look of contentment and anticipation flashes across Aragorn's face as he looks toward Lorien.445 ) The trees of Lorien seem to clatter and ring when Legolas and Aragorn enter the wood as if to welcome them (the traveler they know and the Wood Elf).446 ) The arrowheads of the Lorien Elves seem to be stylized versions of leaves like the ones seen to the side of Galadriel and Celeborn as they descend to greet the Fellowship.447 ) The Lorien bows are longer than Legolas' Mirkwood bow.448 ) Lothlorien Elves have white feathers for their fletching and Legolas (Mirkwood Elves have brown.) The Uruk-hai also has fletching that looks like hair (like the Moria Orcs).449 ) Frodo uses his telepathy for the first time with Galadriel (unknowingly using the power of the ring?) He is almost knocked over when he first receives the telepathy as he enters Lorien. He receives telepathic voice from Sauron (but only while wearing the ring and from the ring itself).450 ) When the Fellowship is being led up the stairs to the flet where they await Celeborn and Galadriel, if you look up to the next very large flet, it looks like they're sitting off to the left as an attendant crosses the floor at the top of the stair and approaches them.451 ) Galadriel was as tall as Celeborn, like in the book; 'the Lady no less tall than the Lord'. Amazing detail!452 ) The floor of the platform where the Fellowship meet Galadriel is decorated with the images of giant mallorn leaves453 ) When Galadriel is addressing the Fellowship, she looks at Boromir and knows he'll fail, but she looks at Sam (who doesn't look away) and she seems to know he will be true and the hope of the quest. "Yet hope remains as long as the company is true..." she says as she quietly smiles.454 ) The sparkles in Galadriel’s eyes while all of the others have one, sharp light reflection. They look like stars or daggers.455 ) In Lothlorien there are heavily laden plates of food behind Boromir when he starts talking about Gondor.456 ) When Boromir is in Lorien, he says that she (Galadriel) spoke of hope, but he can't see it. Sitting next to him, listening, is Aragorn, also known as Estel. The translation of Estel is hope. According to the book Aragorn's mother named him "Hope", meaning the hope of his people.457 ) Aragorn’s look of disbelief when Boromir says he’ll take no rest in Lothlorien. Aragorn obviously can’t fathom not being comforted in Lothlorien.458 ) When Boromir starts talking about the White Tower of Ecthelion, he raises his head and looks off into the distance as if seeing it. Behind him, we see Aragorn raise his head with almost a startled expression and look off at exactly the same angle, as if seeing the same thing. Both hold these positions until Boromir turns back to look at Aragorn. It's a beautiful shot.459 ) When Boromir says his line about someday, the trumpets of the White City calling home the Lords of Gondor (implying him and Aragorn), an incredible look of conflict crosses Aragorn’s face. He had been looking sympathetic, but when Boromir delivers that line, Aragorn suddenly seems consumed by an internal conflict: pursue the mission of the Quest, or follow Boromir to his (Aragorn’s ancestral city?)460 ) Most of the statues in the Elven realms look female or androgynous. The statues Galadriel passes as she walks down the stairs toward her mirror appear to be statues of herself.461 ) It's clear in the vision of the Shire that Frodo sees in Galadriel's mirror that there are two hobbits in the line that are head and shoulders bigger than the others, and their hair matches Merry and Pippin. Has to be the boys after the Ent draughts.462 ) The door to the Hobbiton mill is (human) rectangular rather than (hobbit) circular. This would tie in with Ted Sandyman's love of technology and rejection of hobbit ways.463 ) There is smoke rising from Galadriel's mirror after Frodo falls away from it... just like in the book464 ) When Galadriel converts to what she would be as a dark lord, it's the first time Frodo truly realizes the power of the ring465 ) Galadriel and Gandalf both grow and cause the light to darken and blows wind towards Frodo and Bilbo (respectively) when they're riled.466 ) When Galadriel "transforms" she appears the same as when the Fellowship first meet her during the line "...not dark but beautiful". During the next line "....and terrible as the dawn...." she transforms fully into her "wraith form" and her voice is overlayed with another. She goes on to say ".....treacherous as the sea......", her sleeves are torn and tattered as if she survived a shipwreck (or like the Wraiths' and Sauron's clothes). And during the same time her "Wraithform" wears a plated corselet.467 ) Galadriel's look of relief and resignation as she says "and remain Galadriel.” It ever so slightly lingers as she turns to Frodo and her face becomes stern when she says, “You are a ringbearer, Frodo…” At that moment, he seems condemned.468 ) Frodo instinctively knows he can trust Galadriel and Aragorn to withstand the ring's influence and he doesn't hide the ring from them when they're tempted. He knows he can't trust Boromir (asks to borrow the ring) or Bilbo and keeps it hidden from them469 ) Frodo communicates through thought/telepathy with Galadriel. His power and perception is growing.470 ) Not only did I notice the grey elvish cloaks they wore when departing Lorien, but I liked the Elvish leaf clasp that held them together! Nice attention to detail.471 ) The only scene where we see Galadriel wearing Nenya (besides the prologue) is when she is waving good-bye to the Fellowship472 ) Saruman is talking to Lurtz in front of the palantir (is Sauron watching?)THE GREAT RIVER473 ) Sam's disgusted glance back towards Strider when in the boats are leaving Lorien (he's NOT happy about being in a boat) and his continued look of irritation while sailing on the River Anduin.474 ) They keep the boats in the center of the river where the current is stongest, their farthest from shore, and there are fewer obstacles. (Wait! Is that a log drifting behind them?)475 ) The Uruk-hai have the "White Hand" of Saruman painted on their faces.476 ) You see Legolas then staring at his left and Lurtz at his right, it seems as if both of them are looking at each other: as two mirrors of the same picture, two extremes: the Elf, and the perfected corruption of the Elf.477 ) As they pass the Argonath, you can see where the stone for the great statues was quarried-- it looks like gigantic steps leading down to the river Narsil is in the hand of Elendil's figure at the Argonath (in the book, they're holding axes)478 ) There’s a bird's nest in the right eye of the last king we see at the Argonath (complete with baby birds)PARTH GALEN and AMON HEN479 ) When the Fellowship beaches their boats at Amon Hen, Boromir shivers. The call of the Ring, or a premonition of his place of death?480 ) Merry pats Gimli on the back/shoulder as he returns and sees that Gimli's riled about something. (bet that happened a lot!) Merry's always so supportive of the others.481 ) The statue at Weathertop is almost identical to the one that overlooks Boromir fighting at Amon Hen, only the one at Weathertop's hands are clasped together and the one at Amon Hen has it's hand open and slightly spread apart (receiving & giving?).482 ) All the statues erected in the realm of Gondor are male.483 ) Someone read the Atlas of Middle Earth. At Amon Hen (vestiges of an ancient, lost civilization), you can clearly see Tol Brandir.484 ) Frodo sees a vision of the army masses of Mordor and he hears black speech and not the common tongue Sauron spoke in Bree.485 ) When Aragorn finds Frodo at Amon Hen, he’s anxious and tense wondering where the ring is - which makes Frodo back away. But when Frodo asks him, “Can you protect me from yourself?” Aragorn stops in his tracks, and the look on his face is amazing - suddenly deeply introspective. At that moment, he’s not sure. This is the moment of the test that he has been fearing for so long, and he wasn’t expecting it to come right then. But once he starts walking to Frodo again, his face looks peaceful--he passes the test. Then the anguish in Aragorn's face when he rejects the ring and knows Frodo has to leave.486 ) The Ring calls out to Aragorn upon Amon Hen and uses his kingly name: "Aragorn... Elessar..."487 ) When Aragorn tells Frodo to run... the corner of Frodo's cloak lifts and curls away as he runs off from the Uruk-hai (does the same thing when falling on the steps in Khazad-dum). (Nothing of significance, just a lot of us thinks it's very cool!)488 ) Aragorn yells "Elendil!!" when he jumps from the Seat of Seeing at Amon Hen.489 ) There are two orcs running at Aragorn when Legolas tells Aragorn to go, steps in between Aragorn and the orcs and fires. One orc is right behind the other orc, and the arrow goes through both of them! Then he stabs an orc with his arrow, then fires it, then fires his other arrows so quickly that no one can get within ten feet of him. Excellent!490 ) Legolas has so much control over the force of his shots. He could easily have shot right through the orc Aragorn was struggling with at Amon Hen.491 ) Merry & Pippin hide under a tree at Parth Galen as they did in the Shire.492 ) The grey Elven-cloaks do change colour - they're grey on the river, but when Merry and Pippin are hiding from the orcs, they're green. Clever, eh?493 ) Part of the reason Pippin gets so upset when Merry tells him Frodo is leaving is because Pippin had just been listening to Gimli describe what it would be like to walk to Mordor (festering marshlands, etc.) Merry was off gathering wood and didn't hear. Sam was listening, too...and he didn't look to happy about it. Sam also heard Boromir's description at the Council.494 ) Boromir comes out of nowhere to save Merry & Pippin. Had he been off wandering since his confrontation with Frodo? He didn't have his shield (left at the camp). Maybe it would have helped save his life if he'd had it.495 ) Boromir is the only one who calls the hobbits "Little Ones" (although, Frodo refers to hobbits as "Little People" in the title page of Bilbo & his book). What at first seems a very patronizing expression is clearly an endearment by the end. Boromir is also the only one to tussle hobbit hair as one would do a child.496 ) Lurtz holds his arrow from inside the string instead of outside (holds it backwards)497 ) As Boromir is overcome protecting the hobbits, there is a statue (it’s the same fashion as the statues at Weathertop) overlooking the Son of Gondor as he's falling. It seems as if he's being overlooked by a forefather.498 ) Boromir's horn split (cloven in two)499 ) Merry and Pippin are throwing rocks at the Uruk-hai while Boromir is fighting. You can especially see them after he's taken the first and second arrows. They fought the same way in Moria throwing rocks at the troll. But when Boromir and Frodo fell, they grabbed their daggers and attacked. Part of hobbit battle tactics. Formidable when aroused. The expression on the two hobbits' faces as they tried to charge these towering Uruk-hai showed precisely how much their doomed friend meant to them.500 ) After Boromir gets hit by the second arrow from Lurtz's bow, he turns to Merry and Pippin and Merry extends his hand towards Boromir, reaching out for him for a brief moment, until the next Uruk-hai happens along and takes Boromir's attention and his sword.501 ) When Boromir is facing Lurtz, waiting for that final arrow... most people would close their eyes. Boromir is in pain and despair, yet he's going to face his death.502 ) Boromir is mortally wounded with three arrows in his chest (facing his foes in battle. Isildur's mortally wounded with three arrows in the back (fleeing from foes?))503 ) Aragorn drives his knife completely through Lurtz’s leg. You can see it sticking through the back of his leg.504 ) Aragorn deflects his own knife with his sword when Lurtz pulls it out of his leg and throws it at him.505 ) Legolas's face when Boromir's dying. He looks just devastated! He's obviously listening to what's being said and understanding everything.506 ) Aragorn knows exactly what to say to Boromir to ease his fears. His pledge not to let the White City fall, or for their people to fail was also a pledge to himself to follow his destiny.507 ) Boromir’s death was not in vain… he saved the hobbits from the first onslaught of orcs and guided Aragorn to claim his birthright. He bestowed the kingship on Aragorn with his dying words. "My Captain, My King." Aragorn kissing Boromir's forehead references the book, as in the following quote from TTT, journey to the crossroads: "He embraced the hobbits then, after the manner of his people, stooping, and placing his hnds upon their shoulders, and kissing their foreheads." This makes it seem like a cultural thing specific to Gondor and further illustrates the common background between Aragorn and Boromir.508 ) Aragorn symbolizing acceptance as he straps on Boromir's bracers. It also means he's representing Boromir in battle.509 ) After fight scenes in Moria and Amon Hen, the Fellowship have black hands and smudges of black on their faces. Orc blood is blackTHE BREAKING OF THE FELLOWSHIP510 ) In Moria Gandalf says "All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us," but when Frodo is alone on the Anduin remembering Gandalf says, "All you have to decide is what to do with the time given to you."511 ) Sam's pack is already in the boat Frodo takes across the river.512 ) You can see the form of Frodo's boat moving across the light above Sam as he sinks in the river.513 ) Sam holds the oar wrong when he and Frodo cross the river.514 ) Sam and Frodo don’t take everything packed in the boat as they climb the eastern shore515 ) Sam has somehow gotten his Elven brooch pinned on clumsily upside-down by the end of the movie.516 ) The only time Legolas comes close to smiling is right at the end, when Gimli looks at him and shouts "YES!" and they run after Aragorn. Legolas doesn't smile until Gimli has turned away and started off.517 ) Aragorn only says Merry and Pippin's names once... "We will not abandon Merry and Pippin to torment and death."518 ) It is not common to see the chain around Frodo's neck. Only on occasion, and they are specific to the action of the film. We see it in the final scene, as Frodo and Sam overlook the East. Nice. Reminds us of the ring in the final moment.INCREDIBLE DETAILS THAT JUST NEED TO BE MENTIONED519 ) Each culture has its own design theme. Hobbit buildings and artifacts have a rustic, English Arts & Crafts influenced design. Bag End is probably the best example of this. Elvish buildings and artifacts have a more sophisticated design, very much influenced by Art Nouveau. You can see this in just about everything in Rivendell. Saruman's study and throne room (for lack of a better term) are very ornamental and Gothic. The Orcs have a very crude design ethic that places raw function over form. (Just like the bad guys in those movies where the future is very dark and grim.) Rohirrim artifacts (helmets, spears, etc.) have a very Anglo-Saxon look to them; their buildings seem to be influenced by Gothic and Viking designs. I haven't seen enough of Gondor to get a good feel for the design theme for that culture.520 ) Gandalf held drinks five times: With Frodo at the table at Bag End discussing the ring; at Bilbo's party watching Merry and Pippin; at in the library at Minas Tirith; at Isengard with Saruman; he never held a cup at Bag End with Bilbo, but there was one in front of him on the table.521 ) Gandalf smokes nine times: In cart with Frodo; on stoop w/Bilbo; Bilbo's party; waiting for Frodo after Bilbo leaves; in the library at Minas Tirith; with Frodo at the table in Bag End discussing ring; in Rivendell waiting for Frodo's to reawaken; resting at the foothills of Caradhras; thinking about which door to take in Moria ((holds a pipe talking w/Elrond, but doesn't smoke it))522 ) Frodo and Pippin have collarless shirts, and Sam and Merry have shirts with collars; Pippin is the only one of the hobbits who doesn't wear a vest. Sam's is grey (pin striped, Frodo's is burgundy, and Merry's is yellow); each of the hobbits Shire cloaks close a different way (ties, buttons, etc.) and are different colors; Pippin's the only hobbit wearing a scarf.523 ) Pippin has a side bag slung across his shoulder and Merry has a backpack. Frodo has a backpack and Sam is loaded down with a huge backpack, 2 pans, one ladle, a cooking pot, a water bag hangs down below, a bedroll and there are sausages strung around the outside of all. He's also carrying a side bag over his shoulder. He can still keep up with the rest hauling three times their load.524 ) While the orcs in Moria and in the prologue all seem to have very individualized arms and armor, as though they scavenged or made it all themselves over time, the orcs coming out of Isengard are an "insta-army": most of their weapons and armor was made at the same time, and is more uniform.525 ) While Boromir’s horse wears heavy, elaborate tack, Legolas’s horse and Asfaloth are lightly bridled and saddled, with the same sort of buckles on their bridles (and all the elven horses seen so far have been grey). The Nazgul horses look like they took hours to be readied - all chains and straps and leather, with the straps on the bridle buckling upside-down (with the ends of the strap pointing up instead of down) - and like it was done carelessly: the fabric of the hood under their head armor is rucked up and wrinkled.526 ) Merry was constantly eating apples: At Bilbo's party stealing fireworks; at the foothills of Caradhras learning how to sword fight; at Weathertop getting his dagger from Aragorn; at Rivendell when reunited with Frodo; and he catches, but doesn't eat, an apple outside Bree in the wild.527 ) It looks like there's references of the players personalities in the film: Elijah roughing up his clothes when packing (admits to being messy); Sean Bean's saying Narsil is still sharp referencing his Sharpe series; maybe Orlando surfing down the stairs on a shield from him snowboarding and watersurfing all the time (?)
At the very beginning at the mountain, where the camera is panning around the mountain, it seems like there are man-made tracks in the snow. The Fellowships tracks, perhaps, from their ill-fated attempt to cross Caradhras? Sam's brooch is still fastened backwards from everyone else's.Sam's backpack is in TTT is thinner. In FOTR it was stuffed, it now is almost empty.Frodo always deals with Gollum/Smeagol at his physical level. He crouches down whenever he's speaking to Smeagol. It seems that the music of a single trumpet represents Aragorn, the fiddle/violin represents Théoden or Éowyn, the flute represents Arwen, and the clarinet/whistle represents the hobbits.Eothain, who is sent by his mother to alert Edoras of the village attack, is (in the book) the name of one of Éomer's riders who challenges his decision to help the Hunters. The Dead Marshes scenes show dead Men and Elves--but no Orcs. In the marshes, Sam sleeps with his pots and pan next to his head... doesn't trust Sméagol. In the Dead Marshes scene, at least one of the elves shown lying beneath the water is recognizable as one of the elves killed in the SE FotR Prologue -- the elf with the reddish-orangish hair. When Frodo in entranced, petting the ring, Gollum is a short distance away doing the same motions as Frodo… only Gollum speaks what he's thinking… "So bright! So beautiful." ("This creature is bound to me, and I to him"When Gollum talks, the pupils of his eyes are small; when Sméagol talks, his pupils are large. There is an image of a horse on the nose guard of Éomer's helmet. "On my helmet it says engraved around the rim, 'This helmet belongs to Eomer, son of Eomund, may he ride forth in valor,' written in Rohiric," (Karl) Urban said. Many of the Rohirrim's Helms, but especially Éomer's, seem to be based roughly on the Anglo-Saxon Coppergate Helmet, from York. The sunburst emblem is on the front of Eomer's helmet, and is the design on Theoden's cloak clasp.Legolas says "Hiro hyn hîdh ab 'wanath." Which means "find they peace after death" -he thinks the hobbits have diedThéoden has Saruman's long fingernails when he's under his influence. When the White Wizard is revealed, Aragorn and Gimli both hold up their hands to shelter their eyes. Legolas stands straight (before bowing low), as though the bright light does not affect him much. When fighting the Balrog on the mountain top, he holds Glamdring up to receive a lightening bolt before he deals the fatal blow.Gandalf falls in Moria for 70.07 seconds; using the terminal velocity of a human in a fall--taking off a bit for the Balrog--he falls about 3 kilometers. You can see the endless stair to the right of where Gandalf and the Balrog are fighting.Gandalf has 3 different staffs - the art department based the design of each on the "G" rune. The new white staff makes it easy to see - each of the three sides is the G rune - once forward, once reversed, with the strokes crossing. When Gandalf introduces Shadowfax, not only does Gimli bow, but so does Shadowfax. When Eowyn looks out over Rohan and the flag rips away and falls at Aragorn's feet - if you look closely you see that the other flags have already ripped away. Another sign of the decay of Theoden under Wormtongue. Also that last flag being ripped away is a good visual of the last hope of Rohan being gone - Eomer has been banished, and now Theodred is dead. Grima's eyebrows: he doesn't have any!! That was toooo creepy!; There are scabs in Grima's wig. Gross...; and Grima has a mole above his left eye.Éowyn is standing high above the Fellowship dressed in white (The White Lady of Rohan--angelic savior?) while the townsfolk below are shrouded in black. When Gandalf and the hunters enter Meduseld, Gandalf holds on to Legolas' arm. (To create the illusion that he is an old man that needs a staff.) Gamling, who is Théoden's personal guard in the film, is an old man in charge of Helm's Deep in the book. The shields of Rohan has a symbol that almost looks like a compass or sunburst. That same emblem is over the main doors of Edoras, on Théoden's brooch, on the shields, on the tapestries behind Théoden's throne... it's everywhere! The banners have the white horse. The theme of the horse heads can really be found everywhere, on the roofs of houses in Edoras and also on the front of some of the saddles. The arm rests on Théoden's throne have the horse heads on their front and there are those little figures facing not only the front but also the side at the end of the arm rests. On the tapestry at Meduseld, it shows a Rohan warrior stooping over a prone individual. It was behind Eowyn at sword practice. Anyway, the Making Of book says that one of the tapestries is of Leod (?), a Rohan king who falls and dies while training a horse. So I bet this was that. Tom Shippy says tapestries are important because they appear in Meduseld but not in the Citadel. He believes the intent is to portray Gondor as a higher, but older and colder civilization. Gandalf the White glows while Saruman the white seems dingy, almost grey.Théoden's sword hilt has the shape of two horse heads facing each other (so does Éowyn's). The two carven horses facing one another on the quillon of Herugrim - Théoden's sword. They are carven exactly like the horse heads on the top of the pillars in Meduseld. The large bowls on stands throughout Meduseld (two are on either side of Théoden's throne) are lit with fire to bring light into the room, whereas they are unlit when Grima is in charge. There are many questions about identity. Gandalf, Théoden, Gollum all search their memories to remember (or question) who they are. In Meduseld the tops of the stone pillars are horse's heads. There are seven mounds of the kings of Rohan on one side, and nine on the other; and they are outside the entrance to Edoras (as described in the book). When Gimli burps his beer, Hama can be seen smiling in the background in a shot where everyone should be grave. Shadowfax's stall is like a palace in the stables with a beautiful gate. The stables of Edoras are adorned with beautifully carved pillars, stalls, and beams (images of running horses around the pillars).Eowyn's blue and brown dress is, in concept, a very traditional European middle ages garment - a lighter shift, probably cotton or linen, which could be washed easily, would dry quickly, and feel good against the skin. The outer dress is heavier, more durable, frequently more decorative. The outer dress is frequently just brushed down and aired out, rather than being washed. The Orc that oversees the wargs is also the one that Aragorn fights and then tells how Aragorn fell (he's got straps or metal strips on the top front of his head. Every time Aragorn is with Arwen, he speaks of dreams. Arwen always speaks of hope.Nearly every time someone says "Hope" in a scene with Aragorn, the camera cuts right to Aragorn--who is also named "Estel", which is "hope." Twice the use of the word Estel in Elvish: first during the Arwen/Aragorn dream as she says, "If you do not trust your path, trust to this" and touches his pendant, she speaks the word Estel. Also after Elrond tells Arwen her future he turns to face her and you hear the chorus begin with, "Estel..."In Arwen's vision of Aragorn's tomb, he's lying with Narsil in his hand and Boromir's bracers on his arms and is still wearing the ring of Barahir. When we see Arwen leaving Rivendell, she is wearing a brooch with a green gem in the middle of it. It appears to be a great bird of some sort with its wings spread. Could this possibly be the Elfstone, that Galadriel gives him in the gift giving scene from the book of TT? It is described in the book as a brooch of an eagle with outstretched wings, with a stone of clear green in the middle. When Elrond is contemplating what role the Elves should have in the war, he approaches the mural and looks sternly at Isildur's image... as if he's reliving his choices and the battle where it all started long ago. "Do we let them stand alone?" Saruman's symbol, the White Hand, is on some of the tree's in Fangorn. When Treebeard is "calling role" to see who is present at the Entmoot, he calls tree types rather than names. "Beech" is one of them (also Ash, Chestnut, Oak). The first Ent besides Treebeard we see is a very skinny one. It would seem that this skinny Ent would be the Beech tree. It also appears that this is the tree set on fire upon storming Isengard. Perhaps PJ is hinting towards Beechbone, the Ent who was scorched and died in the book. When Sam is talking about potatoes, he says, "boil them, mash them, put them in a stew," which is the song the trolls sing in the old Hobbit cartoon while deciding how to eat Bilbo and the Dwarves.Faramir asks Gollum "what did they steal" and Gollum shouts "My precious" His face is distorted very similarly to Bilbo's face when Bilbo grabbed for the ring in Rivendell.During the warg fight, Legolas fires his arrows with his left hand. Not sure if this is another film flip moment or done on purpose to show that he can do it both ways. There's a broken statue across from the statue of Helm Hammerhand. The wall hanging in Arwen's room is of the Two Trees in Valinor - which neither she nor Elrond would have ever seen, but surely would know about. There's also a small elven ship low in the picture between the two trees.Saruman's crows are circling the field outside Helm's Deep as a prelude to the army's arrival.Théoden IS left handed. (watched for flipped pix... everyone else around him is right-handed)During the horse and rider speech of Théoden's, the tables are set as though they were about to eat (or have eaten hastily). Later, Legolas knocks one of the tables over so that he can barricade the door with it.Haleth at Helms Deep is Philippa Boyen's son. The boy standing next to him before Aragorn speaks to them is Viggo's son, Henry (Hank). When the Elves march into Helm's Deep you can spot the Maori Elf (he's close to the camera). The temptation music we hear when Boromir and Aragorn are tempted by the ring can also be heard when Faramir sees it.When Faramir is looking at the ring, it doesn't make the same sounds as it has for others. Is Frodo interfering with it? He stops it and pushes Faramir's sword away just as he knows the ring is getting revved up. Before the charge, we see an older man standing beside a boy (Haleth, son of Hama). A powerful image of the young and the old united by force to defend their people and culture. The old man is the one who eventually releases the first arrow on the Orcs. Merry and Pippin have a different version of the Shire theme than Frodo. It's brief in TTT, and sounds a bit more Gaelic. Pippin used to fasten his cloak under his scarf, but since he lost his elven-brooch, he fastens it above this scarf. The marching music for the Ents is a variation of the moth music in FOTR (a "nature" theme) All of the White Hands seen on the Uruk's armour are left-hand prints - whereas the ones on the Uruk banners are right hand prints. Some of the shields are carried upside-down.An elf is the first to fall on the good side at the Battle of Helm's Deep. The children that we see before the king and Aragorn make the counter-assault right before Gandalf appears are the same children we saw in FOTR listening to Bilbo's story about the three trolls (The have close-ups in other shots). They are Peter and Fran's children. When Haldir is first wounded , it shocks him. He looks at his arm (looking at the blood?) as though he can't believe this is happening. Then when he's hit from behind, it's not so much the pain but the sheer surpise that death has caught him. As dawn approaches and the Uruks have taken the outer court of the keep, they are putting up flags with the white hand. When the Rohirrim charge down the hill and the sunlight breaks on the orcs faces at the last moment (effectively the Rohirrim and Gandalf use it as a weapon), it is exactly timed against Saruman saying "There will be no dawn for men."Although there are white horses besides Shadowfax, none shine like him. As it should be.After a series of retreats at Helms Deep, the banners with the white hand are shown on the outer walls. You see it for just a moment, but they didn't forget! When the waters of Isen are pouring across Isengard and into the caverns, you can hear an Orc cry as he is plunged down with the water. The sound seems recycled from the Moria sequence of Fellowship.Grima's nowhere to be seen when the Ents attack.During the Storming of Isengard, you can see smoke through the windows of Orthanc to the other side. Some of the Ents are throwing boulders against the base of Orthanc. The White Tree of Gondor is not only on Faramir's breast place, but also some shields. Also, the seven stars are high and are hidden by his cloak most of the time. It's the same design that we have seen Aragorn wearing in some ROTK pics. The ringwraith we see riding over Osgiliath carries a sword we've not yet seen. The tip of the pommel is diamond-shaped.Sam lifts Frodo up off the ground in Osgiliath the same way Aragorn lifts Sam up outside Moria. "On your feet, Sam." In other words... buck up... you can do this!Faramir kneels before Frodo, just as Aragorn did. These wise men kneeling to the Ringbearer - after they have refused the temptation of the Ring.No one calls Aragorn Strider (Oh, Sam…)Cameos spotted so far are: Peter throwing a spear out the window at the Uruk-hai with the battering ram and as a wild man incited by Saruman to attack the Westfold. One shouts "Murderer!" and then there's a wider shot of them, showing Saruman as well, raising their spears/swords and yelling. The shot directly after shows one man, yelling, and then the camera pans to the right to show another wild man yelling. If PJ's one of the wild men, that's him; Peter & Fran's children are seen several times as refugees in the Glittering Caves; Peters' storyboard artist, Christian Rivers (WETA Art Director) is standing along the wall smiling as the Elves march by; Dan Hennah and Alan Lee are standing behind Aragorn as he and Legolas argue about the Rohan-folk's fear; there's another soldier standing along the wall as the Elves march by...I think it's Daniel Falconer (WETA designer/sculptor)There's a touching memorium/dedication at the end of the credits for Carla Fry (Executive in Charge of Production); Brent Robb (Assistant Production Coordinator); and Brian Bansgrove (Supervising Chief Lighting Technician--Gaffer) who is seen in the DVD specials during the Moria filming. Orlando Bloom blinks 3 times during the entire film, and never when the camera is directly on him.In the credits there are two lines in Maori (wishing all the best to their land and people):He maungärongo ki te whenuaHe whakaaro pai ki ngä tängata katoaLegolas' eyes are brown for the majority of the battle of Helm's Deep, instead of their customary blue. It has been pointed out that elves' eyes change color with their mood. However, a story is reported that, in fact, this particular color change came about when Orlando Bloom's blue contact lenses were forgotten during some of the shooting for this sequence.
Ca c'est du détail qui tue! Je penserai à regarder, tiens. Enfin tant que c'est pas la braguette qui reste ouverte.. Bon ok je sors  Non juste autre chose :413 ) When running from the orcs in Khazad-dum, Frodo’s shirt is still open from exposing the mithril shirt! (good detail)
C'est marrant, j'avais jamais remarqué mais maintenant qu'ils le disent c'est vrai, Legolas il fait toujours la gueule!516 ) The only time Legolas comes close to smiling is right at the end, when Gimli looks at him and shouts "YES!" and they run after Aragorn. Legolas doesn't smile until Gimli has turned away and started off.
Alors, soit Frodon a voulu lui piquer pour avoir de la corde elfique et des casseroles, soit c'est un acte inconscient et il savait que Sam allait venir avec lui511 ) Sam's pack is already in the boat Frodo takes across the river.
Tiens c'est drôle d'avoir remarqué ça, faudra vérifier ...Nearly every time someone says "Hope" in a scene with Aragorn, the camera cuts right to Aragorn
Oui, alors, bon, des fois je me demande s'ils en inventent pas ...257 ) There are sort of baby 'cooing' noises in the background as Lurtz is 'born'. ...310 ) Boromir is examining the shards of Narsil when he nicks himself. The line, "it's still sharp," was wasted on most of the audience. (Sean Bean played Richard Sharpe in the "Sharpe's Rifles" series)
...310 ) Boromir is examining the shards of Narsil when he nicks himself. Bon là, c'est vraiment de la déduction pure, mais il est vrai que ça se tient419 ) The Orcs in Moria have large eyes compared to the orcs that Saruman uses. The reason the Moria orcs have larger eyes than the Isengard Orcs is that they live in the dark, and evolved that way--also part of the reason why they cannot stand the light as well.
Je crois que PJ en parle dans le commentaire audio du DVD. Enfin, je sais plus si c'est PJ mais c'est sur un des commentaires.Bon là, c'est vraiment de la déduction pure, mais il est vrai que ça se tient419 ) The Orcs in Moria have large eyes compared to the orcs that Saruman uses. The reason the Moria orcs have larger eyes than the Isengard Orcs is that they live in the dark, and evolved that way--also part of the reason why they cannot stand the light as well.Je me demande bien quand même si c'est voulu ou c'est seulement dû au hasard  ....
Je comprendrai jamais tout ce battage autour de cet elfe du Conseil d'Elrond ! Ce mec là a des fans partout sur le web ! Faudra qu'on m'explique338 ) Figwit can speak! Well, argue anyway. Ok, so we can’t hear him. But he’s one of the first to jump to his feet when the Council erupts in argument, and a moment later we see him arguing vehemently with someone. Methinks he must be uttering words of incredible wisdom and insight. Wish he wasn’t such a hothead, though.
Aaah nonEn plus le g sur la terre du milieu n'est pas le g de notre terre, il nous faudrait la masses de la terre du milieu et le diametre (me semble que c'est un truc plat :-))
