J'ai beaucoup aimé Thunderer, et je suis content de voir cet auteur revenir avec un nouveau roman (en espérant qu'il soit un jour traduit)...

“In September, I have something coming out from Tor which is very different. I didn't want to write another city book, didn't feel like creating another gigantic setting. And I wanted to try my hand at something which had a more straightforward plot. I've been accused of overplotting and underplotting, but this one has a clearer plot. It's called A History of the Half-Made World (first of what will be either two or three books), and up to a point it's like a fantastic western. It's a purely invented world, though the fantastical elements are mostly limited to two weird and inhuman factions which sort of divide the world between them. They're archetypes of something or other, probably. The book has the frontier theme, the theme of the founding and various falls from grace, but I don't want to describe it as purely an American history thing, because that sounds like it's more closely tied to American history than it is. It plays with certain tropes, let's say.”

La couverture est très sympa

Très évocatrice, et moins surchargée que celles de ses romans précédents. Ça n'a pourtant rien à voir avec la qualité du roman à venir, mais je suis d'autant plus impatient de me plonger dedans.

Gillo ta critique m'ayant donné envie d'en savoir plus je suis allée lire l'extrait disponible et comme ça m'a bien plus hop je l'ai commandé . Affaire à suivre donc.

Tout le problème étant déjà de lui trouver une place dans mes étagères et en plus c'est un Hardcover :oAutrement l'extrait que j'ai lu m'a fait bien envie (faut que je lise la nouvelle aussi disponible en ligne) donc je pense qu'il va griller la priorité aux bouquins que je pensais lire prochainement

J'ai fini de lire ce livre et je dois dire que si j'ai vraiment apprécié cette lecture, je suis quand même restée un peu sur ma faim. Le monde que l'auteur met en scène est très original et très intéressant mais m'a semblé pas assez détaillé. J'aurais vraiment aimé en savoir plus sur The Line, The Gun et aussi sur les First Folk. J'aurais aussi pas été contre avoir plus d'info au niv de la géopolitique Gillo dans ta critique tu marques :

C'est exactement le sentiment que j'ai eu.Du côté des personnages en particulier le trio Liv, Creedmoor et Lowry, Gillo, contrairement à ce que tu marques dans ta critique je ne les ai pas spécialement trouvés denses ou profonds. Bon, sans les trouver creux je les ai trouvés malheureusement plutôt assez "monochromatique" et manquant un peu complexité. C'est finalement Lowry qui m'a le plus plu comme personnagesPar contre le style de l'auteur est vraiment très agréable et certains passages sont très sympa en particulier ceux consacrés à Lowry et les "discussions" entre Creedmoor et Marmion.Et je confirme la fin (si c'en est bien une ?) est vraiment trop précipitée.Je regrette bien que le risque de finir ce livre frustré évoqué dans la critique s'est trouvé vrai dans mon cas.

Déjà, ça fait plaisir que quelqu'un ait eu la curiosité de le lire.

En fait je crois que ma frustration vient du fait que j'ai trouvé son univers tellement original, riche et intriguant que j'étais un peu déçue de ne pas avoir un peu plus de détails. Je ne dis pas avoir toutes les explications sur tout, j'aime bien quand les choses restent avec une part de mystère, mais je n'aurais pas craché quand même sur quelque détails supplémentaires en particulier finalement surtout sur The Line qui m'ont beaucoup intrigués.Mais maintenant avec un peu plus de recul et que ma frustration est un peu retombée je dois dire que c'est un bouquin que j'ai trouvé très bien surtout parce qu'il sort vraiment des sentiers battus de la fantasy habituelle.
